I recently visited Hello Tire and honestly, the level of care and professionalism stood out right away.

I went in for a simple oil change, but the team didn’t just rush the job — they took the time to check the overall condition of my car and pointed out a few things I should keep an eye on. No pressure, no upselling — just honest advice.

You can tell they actually care about both the car and the customer. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and they take pride in doing the job properly instead of rushing through it.

If you value your car and want reliable, honest service, this is definitely a place worth trying.

Highly recommended.

Tread is your grip.

2/32″ The legal minimum tread depth in most Canadian provinces.2 Winter tires worn close to 4 mm (5/32″) shouldn’t be used on snow-covered roads.3

IllustrationNew tires typically start with about 8 to 10 mm of tread.4 Replace them by 1.6 mm (2/32″), the legal minimum in most provinces.2
Book a tire check

Signs it’s time

  • The tread is worn down to the wear indicators in the grooves.5
  • Cuts, cracks, bulges or blisters on the sidewall.5
  • Unusual vibration, pulling or changes in handling.5
  • Less grip or longer stops, especially in the wet.5

Try this

The quarter test. Put a quarter in the tread with the caribou’s nose pointing down. If you can see the tip of the nose, your tread is getting low.2

Switch to winter tires once the temperature consistently dips below 7°C.6 After 5 years, have your tires inspected every year.5

Listen to your brakes.

IllustrationA new pad next to one worn almost to its steel backing. Grinding or scraping when you brake can mean the pads are worn through.8
Book a brake check

Signs it’s time

  • A screech when you brake, often the pads’ wear indicator.8
  • Grinding or scraping, which can mean the pads are worn through.8
  • The car pulls to one side when you slow down.8
  • A spongy pedal, or one that goes down further than usual.8
  • Vibration in the steering wheel or pedal when you brake.8
  • The brake warning light is on.8

Good habit

Have your brakes checked at each seasonal tire change. The wheels are already off, so it’s quick.

Fresh oil, on schedule.

6 months How often we recommend changing your oil and filter. Change it sooner if your car’s oil-change reminder comes on.

IllustrationCheck with the car off and on level ground. Wipe the dipstick, put it back, pull it out again, and read the level against the marks.9
Book an oil change

Signs it’s time

  • The oil-change reminder comes on.9
  • The level on the dipstick sits below the marked range.9
  • The red oil pressure light comes on. Stop safely and turn the engine off.10

Good to know

Your owner’s manual or your car’s oil monitoring system tells you when a change is due. You can upgrade to synthetic oil, but never downgrade from what your maker specifies.9

Winter finds weak batteries.

3 to 5 yrs How long car batteries last on average. High heat and freezing temperatures both take a toll.11
A car battery terminal crusted with white and blue-green corrosion
IllustrationWhite, blue or green powder on the terminals gets in the way of the battery doing its job.11
Book a battery test

Signs it’s time

  • The engine cranks more slowly than normal.12
  • Dim or flickering headlights or interior lights.12
  • Electrics acting up, like slow windows.12
  • The battery warning light is on.12
  • Corrosion on the terminals, or a cracked or bulging case.12

Good habit

Have your battery tested at least twice a year.11

Straight road, straight wheel.

Signs it’s time

  • The car pulls left or right on a straight road.13
  • The steering wheel isn’t centred when you drive straight.13
  • Uneven or fast wear on the inside or outside edges of the tires.13

Good habit

Have your alignment checked when you get new tires, and once a year.13

See the road clearly.

Yearly How often we recommend replacing your wiper blades. Replace them sooner if they streak or miss spots.
